Job Seeker Q&A
Q: “Are positions available or is the agency actually recruiting at the moment?”

How Do I STAND OUT?
Q: “What is the best way to be a candidate for a position where there are many applicants?” -Cyrus H.
A: In essence, Cyrus is asking “How does my resume get seen by someone other than the trash can?” First, ask yourself if you find your resume intruiging, because if it’s not interesting to you it’s not likely to reach the ALL MIGHTY RECRUITER. I could go into the typical resume pointers here but I’m going to assume you’re aware that typos, misspellings, lack of contact info, etc. is a resume death sentence. You have to set aside your employment frustrations and act in terms of how you can make the Recruiter’s job easier. Applying online then calling to follow up 10 more times doesn’t always put you at the top of the list, there are more productive ways to land at the top of that growing resume pile.
Let’s think outside the box a moment. What could your resume have that no one else’s does… include your Skype username in your “contact me” section for a virtual interview. Why you ask? Save the Recruiter interviewing time (checking their availability, emailing you driving directions, waiting for you to arrive, waiting longer because you got lost and arrived late & all the other time-consuming details that encompass a face-to-face interview) and allow for a thorough virtual interview from the comforts of your own home. I foresee in the near future hiring will turn more video and virtual, your resume will show you are paying attention to these trends.
Another step in the recruiting process is Skills Testing. What if you were proactive and already completed the online skills testing at your leisure, were satisfied with your scores and had your Skills Testing Performance Report in hand to provide to your prospective Employer? WOW! I bet many job seekers can’t say they have their Data Entry, Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, and Oracle test scores to provide to the Hiring Manager… you just bypassed 70% of your competition assuming your scores were average or better.
Anyone whose ever left a company has anxiety when a future employer mentions a “Reference Check.” Yes, this is standard practice and many times the information we dig up is neutral: dates of employment and job title only. Do you know what your past employers are saying about you? Going back to the theme of making the recruiter’s job easier… have a 3rd party service check your references for you and have them ready to hand the Recruiter (before the Recruiter even asks for it).

My Very First Blog
As the Career Services Manager for TPI Staffing, my blogging goal is to give “Insider Insight” to what goes on at a Recruiter’s desk. The juggling, multi-tasking and hard deadlines are all in a Staffing Companies’ days work. To ensure I’m gravitating to the questions job-seekers really want answered, I went straight to the source. THANK YOU Facebook followers (facebook.com/tpistaffing) for revealing your grievances and allowing me to address them. I’m formulating honest answers to your questions to post in my next blog… let the brainstorming begin.
